I see UX Design Operations as a vital component of any UX team that wishes to create real value over time. At Lendio (2021-2023), I received valuable mentoring in Design Operations and was eventually given direct responsibility for its implementation and management across our organization.

1. UX Project Management in Jira

Background

Project leadership believed that adopting the same project management tool used by Engineering (Jira) for UX would improve efficiency and transparency within and across our multiple cross-functional product teams. I was assigned the responsibility of documenting our new UX-focused process in Jira, then promoting and measuring its adoption.

Actions

  1. Measured our team's current use of Jira.
  2. Documented the newly established Jira process for UX.
  3. Trained UX designers on Jira in general and our new process.
  4. Encouraged adoption and filled knowledge gaps through one-on-one conversations.
  5. Measured team adoption month-over-month.
